A family, a detour, and twenty-five years of friendship
The Strobell Family Foundation serves Latin America and its indigenous peoples, with most of our work in the rural villages of Guatemala.
It all began in 1998, when Dan Strobell tried to reach hurricane victims in Honduras by traveling overland through Mexico with his young children. He was guided instead to Guatemala, where he stayed and began a decades-long effort to help the native peoples of the rural villages.
Many early projects were simply about getting to know local cultures and building relationships across different regions. Those friendships led to home and school construction, micro-lending, and the transport of educational materials.
Over the years Dan's son Tim, and much of the rest of the family, joined in. A local Rotary club became a partner, raising awareness and funding — including for one of the most important efforts: improved cooking stoves that use less fuel and vent smoke outside the home.
On September 13, 2018, the IRS recognized the Strobell Family Foundation as a 501(c)(3) public charity. The founding members are Dan Strobell, Michelle Tanner and Tim Strobell.
